Leo Ming-yan Lo is a founder of a real estate crowdfunding startup company (Property Seeding Company Limited) and a “Proptech” development company (Melon Proptech Company Limited). He plays a proactive role in the Proptech industry and highly involves in the industry development by delivering talk in seminars and conferences, writing book and commentary articles on real estate crowdfunding, etc.

Mr. Lo possesses over 12 years’ experience in the general practice surveying industry, he leads and manages IPO and real estate M&A advisory and valuation projects in China, Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific Region. Mr. Lo is now also a Director of Crowe Horwath (HK) Consulting and Valuation Limited, he was a Senior Director in CBRE Limited and headed the Valuation and Advisory Department of CBRE Shanghai for over 5 years. He has successfully advised the listing valuation for over 60 IPOs on Hong Kong Main Board and GEM Board, and also the Singapore Stock Exchange. He specializes in the valuation and real estate M&A advisory of various types of assets located across the Asia-Pacific Region.

Mr. Lo holds a bachelor degree in surveying from the University of Hong Kong and a master degree in economics with focus on corporate finance and economic forecasting from the University of Hong Kong. He is also a Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), Member of Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and Registered Professional Surveyor (General Practice). He is a Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors, Member of the Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executives Association and founding member of Hong Kong-ASEAN Economic Cooperation Foundation.

Property Technology or “Proptech”, a term nowadays commonly used, is an emerging sector in the technology space where entrepreneurs, incubators, accelerators, and now corporate property players are looking for technology that making improvements on the ways dealing with the property.

 

Just like Airbnb in hospitality business and Uber in transportation business, now the property sector is getting its dose of the so-called digital "disruption", especially on the property mortgage and finance.

 

In some countries, the introduction of real estate crowdfunding (“RECF”) has allowed for accredited individuals to invest in income producing real estate projects from a large number of people, "the crowd".  This kind of ways for real estate owners to secure financing for projects is a great alternative to traditional mortgages and bridge loans.  RECF is somehow a way out for the real estate owners, investors and landlords/ developers to secure a mortgage/ finance, outside of traditional financing.
