Event 3B: Introduction to Historic Timber Structure
Timber structures have been used for more than a thousand years yet constantly been attacked by fungus, insects, environment and misuse. It is an excellent material in many aspects and has a very high strength to weight ratio.
This talk outlines the material properties, strength and weakness of such material in the building structures. It also touches on the survey technique, strengthening options, repair methods to rectify defects, fire aspect and preservation etc. Case studies will also be presented for the repair of the timber structures.
