In the 2017 Policy Address, the Chief Executive stated that we should consider allocating a small proportion of land on the periphery of country parks with relatively low ecological and public enjoyment value for development of public housing and non-profit-making elderly homes. In May 2017, the Hong Kong Housing Society accepted the Government’s invitation to undertake ecological and technical studies of two selected sites in country parks.
The development of country park land was one of the issues of discussion in the HKIS Land Supply Policy Discussion Forum in July 2015, during which different views were expressed.
The aim of this forum is to provide an opportunity for our members to further discuss and raise their comments on developing country park land. Comments and views will be consolidated and then submitted to the Government for reference.
The forum will feature a presentation covering the following topics:
- Background of country parks
- Scientific criteria for assessing land for preservation
- Exchange for high ecological value Government and/or private land
- Cautions: Landslide hazards
